LS Polls: Farooq declares assets worth Rs 26.28 crore

Srinagar, Apr 5: National Conference (NC) president and candidate for Srinagar parliamentary seat Farooq Abdullah’s property has grown by Rs 16 crores in the last one-and-half year.
As per the affidavit submitted by him before the Returning Officer (RO) of Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, Farooq currently owns both movable and immovable assets worth Rs 26.28 crore.
It includes movable and immovable assets worth Rs 10.60 crores and Rs 15.68 crores, respectively.
During Lok Sabha by-polls in 2017 for Srinagar seat, Farooq’s affidavit mentioned he owned movable and immovable assets worth Rs 14 crore.
The affidavit also shows that the income of the former Member of Parliament (MP) has also doubled since 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
As per the affidavit, his income in 2013-14 was Rs 13,49,654, which in 2017-18 increased up to Rs 28,60,341.
Apart from the assets, Farooq has Rs 1,4,340,471 cash saved in state and various other national banks.
In the affidavit, the NC patron has specified that he has invested Rs 66,394 to buy shares in Reliance Company.
The affidavit also showed that he owns two luxury cars—Grand Vitara worth Rs 5 lakhs and Scorpio valuing Rs 3 lakhs.
Farooq, as per the affidavit, has a share in common orchard in Khalmulla Ganderbal and Dhanji Bhai building at Sherwani road in Srinagar, which are his self-acquired assets valuing Rs 2 crore and 2.8 crores, respectively.
The NC president’s immovable property also includes a non-agricultural land of 1 Kanal and 8 marlas at Soura, which is valued as Rs 60 lakhs. He also owns 2 kanal and 9 marlas land at Nandpura in Srinagar.
His affidavit mentioned the NC president owns two residential houses at Gupkar in Srinagar and Bhatandi in Jammu.
Gupkar residence as per the affidavit was initially taken by him on lease in 1974, during which he paid Rs 2 lakhs.
For Bhathandi, which he bought for Rs 3 lakhs, he has invested Rs 1 crore for the construction of the house, currently valuing Rs 4.15 crores.
Farooq in the affidavit has not mentioned the assets owned by his spouse Molly, who has been living in London since 1990.
