Madrid: Lionel Messi was reported on Thursday to be planning to leave Barcelona in 2021, but Real Madrid Coach Zinedine Zidane was hoping the Argentine maestro will stay in Spain.
Zidane’s comments are being seen by many as an attempt to lure the Argentinian superstar to Real Madrid, much the hugely controversial signing of Luis Figo from Barcelona. Messi’s current contract expires next year and he has halted negotiations due to his reported unease at Nou Camp.
The Real Madrid hierarchy too is open to the move and many sources within the club sat matching Lionel Messi’s astronomical wages would not be a problem.
Madrid on the other hand have been looking for their own ‘Galactico’ after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and have not yet been to find a big name signing to fill Ronaldo’s shoes.
If Messi does join Real Madrid from Barcelona it will be a huge loss of face for the Catalan club and a huge victory for Zidane and Real Madrid.
