Lal Chowk parking spaces to be completed by April 2020

Srinagar, Jan 8: Parking lots being constructed by the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) at Press Enclave and Sheikh Bagh here would be completed by April 2020.
The work on these parking spaces was started in May 2017.
The parking lots would be ramp-type, allowing the cars to be driven to the top floors for parking.
The parking lot at Press Enclave is coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 26.92 crores and has a capacity to accommodate 469 four-wheelers and 130 two-wheelers.
The approved cost of the parking is Rs 30 crore.
The parking lot at Sheikh Bagh is coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 22.60 crore and has a capacity to accommodate 430 four-wheelers and 50 two-wheelers.
The work has been taken in hand under the centrally-sponsored AMRUT scheme, with centre providing 90% funds and state providing 10% funds.
A M Raina, Vice Chairman (VC), SDA said the work has been going on smoothly.
“We hope that the project would be completed in time,” he said.
Once completed, it is expected that the problem of traffic congestion in the summer capital would ease off to a larger extent.
The commuters at present are finding it difficult to park their vehicles at Lal Chowk and are forced to park their vehicles along the roadside.
The parking lots operational at Sangarmal Shopping complex and KMD Adda have not been able to cater the huge rush of vehicles coming to the city centre from different parts of the valley.
