`Labaik Ya Hussain (RA)’: Peaceful Ashura processions held across Kashmir

Srinagar, Jul 17: Thousands of mourners on Wednesday took out an Ashura procession in the city to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Prophet Muhammad‘s (SAW) grandson Imam Hussain (RA) on Muharram.

Officials said that the procession started from Bota Kadal in the Lal Bazar area of the city and culminated at Zadibal Imambara.

The chest-beating and wailing mourners passed through the city roads, eulogizing Hussain’s sacrifice in the fight between good and evil.

Officials said authorities had made adequate arrangements to ensure incident-free observance of Muharram procession.

Security forces were deployed all along the route while police and volunteers had set up stalls to distribute water among the mourners, they said.

The officials said doctors and paramedical staff were also deployed along the route to attend to any emergency.

 For the second consecutive year, the authorities had allowed the eighth-day procession from Guru Bazar to Dalgate on Monday.

Meanwhile, Youm-e-Ashura, the 10th day of the Islamic calendar’s first month — Muharram, was observed across Kashmir after mourning processions were taken out in several parts of the valley on Wednesday.

An official said the 10th Muharram processions were carried out in various areas of Kashmir including Mirgund Budgam, Hanjiwera Pattan, Zadibal Srinagar, Wullarhama Anantnag, etc. “The mourning processions adhered to its traditional routes and peacefully reached their destined spots.”

The mourners, during the processions, were seen beating their chests and repeating elegies in remembrance of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), who laid his life on the battlefield of Karbala.

Thousands of Shia Muslim mourners participated in “Alam” and “Zuljinah” processions held across Kashmir on the 10th day of Muharram also known as Youm-e-Ashura Ashura.

The mourners participated in the 10th Muharram processions in huge numbers despite the scorching heat, testifying their faith in the day and reverence for the Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).

For the convenience of the commuters, a traffic advisory was already issued by the traffic police department for seamless travel of people and had mentioned routes to be used on Ashura day.

To facilitate the mourners and for the seamless observance of the 10th Muharram processions, the administration and police had made arrangements in the areas where mourning processions were expected to be taken out.
