Srinagar: Kashmir reported its third death from coronavirus after a 60-year-old man from Bandipora district died at SMHS Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
Medical Superintendent SMHS, Dr Nazir Chowdary confirmed to The Kashmir Monitor that the deceased had pneumonia and tested positive for coronavirus.
Nodal Officer for Coronavirus Sumbal, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari too confirmed that the deceased was infected with Covid-19 and was shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment.
“I have received his report from SMHS. We have been told to perform the burial of the man as per COVID-19 protocol,” Bukhari told The Kashmir Monitor.
Informed sources told The Kashmir Monitor that the person belonged to Gund-Jehangeer village of Hajin in Bandipora district.
The administration, sources added, has put as many as 20 members of the family, including the deceased’s 50-year-old wife, his two sons, three daughters, and two infant grandchildren — aged 6 and 7 months– in home observation.
This is the third death from coronavirus in Kashmir. Last month, a man from Hyderpora, originally an inhabitant from Sopore town and a man from Tangmarg had died of Covid-19 infection. So far 114 people have been tested positive for the virus in J&K, 90 of them in Kashmir.
