Srinagar, Mar 24: Three more persons with travel history tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday taking the total number of positive cases to seven in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Two more cases reported positive in Srinagar. One has confirmed travel history outside India while full details regarding the second are being ascertained,” read an official tweet of Health and Medical Education department and Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary also tweeted: “2 more positive cases. Teams are on ground as per SoP. We need to be more alert and cooperative.”
Later in the day, one more person was confirmed to be Covid-19 positive.
An official said that one of the three cases is a resident of Srinagar aged 57, (name withheld) who had returned from Saudi Arabia in same flight in which 67-year-old lady from Khanyar, who was tested positive on March 18, was on board.
The second one, age 65, too is a Srinagar resident with travel history of Delhi.
HOD Chest Diseases hospital Srinagar, Dr Naveed Nazir Shah said so far two cases have been tested positive out of the 23 samples taken.
He said that results of the eight samples were sent for tests on Tuesday, reports of which are still awaited.
As the day ended, officials confirmed that a 22-year-old youth from Bandipora who too had a travel history was also tested positive for the virus.
Officials said that a sample of person admitted in GMC Baramulla was sent to SKIMS where it came out positive talking the toll of cases positive for Coronavirus to seven in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Another positive case in Kashmir division.Patient from Bandipora with history of travel outside J&K but no history of travel abroad. Contact tracing on”, tweeted Government spokesperson Rohit Kansal.
Meanwhile, the woman from Srinagar who was the first Covid-19 case in Kashmir has recovered.
District Magistrate Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhury tweeted: “Srinagar’s first COVID-19 Positive case successfully treated: Director SKIMS. Let’s #BreakTheChain.”
Nodal officer SKIMS Dr G H Yatoo said that the lady is recovering very well, however, he said it will take more time for her to be 100 percent fit.
Dr Yatoo said that SKIMS on Tuesday received one more patient with symptoms of Coronavirus whose report is expected to come on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Government in its daily bulleting informed that 4765 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance and, so far, only six cases have tested positive in Jammu and Kashmir and one among them has already recovered.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel coronavirus (COVID-19) 2928 persons have been kept under home quarantine while as 71 are in hospital quarantine.
Persons who are under home surveillance stand at 1268 while as 498 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period.
The Bulletin further said that 279 samples have been sent for testing of which 253 tested as negative. Only six persons have tested positive so far and of them only five are Active Positive and one patient has recovered.
The bulletin further stated that 20 reports are awaited till March 24, 2020.
