Jammu: The faculty members and officials of University of Jammu (JU) have written to Governor Satya Pal Malik opposing the recent decision of appointing Prof. R. K. Ganjoo as the varsity’s Registrar.
On Friday, Prof. Ganjoo was given the charge of Registrarship of University of Jammu.
In a letter written to Governor Malik a day later, the faculty members and officials of the university have claimed that Prof. Ganjoo was “ineligible” for the post.
“The Date of birth of Prof.R. K. Ganjoo is 11.4.1959 and retirement age of officers in the University of Jammu is 60 years. He is as such ineligible to hold any substantive administrative position in the University,” reads the letter, a copy of which was accessed by The Kashmir Monitor.
The letter adds that Prof Ganjoo has been declared “ineligible by the Committee constituted to determine the eligibility of candidates applying for the position of Registrar/Controller/DCD on the basis of his age which is on display on the University website.”
The order, the letter adds, has “generated shock waves among the teaching fraternity and officer cadre of the University not only because of this order being in contravention of the statutes but also due to the kind of negative reputation that Prof. Ganjoo carries.”
He, the faculty and officials allege, is the only teacher of the University whose membership of the Jammu university teacher association has been terminated.
“There are innumerable verbal and written complaints of his misbehaviour pending against him with regard to losing temper, shouting, throwing files at people, banging tables using abusive language and abusive body language in official meetings and not even sparing lady colleagues,” reads the letter.
It further says that Prof. Ganjoo’s appointment in a “peculiar and clandestine manner is part of the conspiracy hatched to give him the charge of Registrar at a critical juncture when the University is in the process of spending Rs. 100 crores under RUSA grants.”
“It is no surprise that the officers handling this grant in various capacities have been changed many times in the last few months and external engineers and advisors are being brought in to spend this money and ignoring the University works department,” it reads.
