JK’s relation with India being turned into Israel-Palestine conflict: Mehbooba

Srinagar, Apr 10: Former chief minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said that Jammu and Kashmir’s relation with Union of India was being turned into Israel-Palestine conflict.

Reacting to the ban imposed on civilian movement on highway twice a week, Mehbooba said, the relation of Jammu and Kashmir with Union of India is quite different from Israel-Palestine but it is now being turned into Israel-Palestine conflict.

She said if New Delhi wants to convert JK’s relation with India like the Israel-Palestine then they need to be prepared for the situation, being witnessed in Palestine.

Mehbooba reiterated her call to defy the restriction on highway; saying “people should come out with their vehicles on highway and let us see what will happen.”

She also termed the ban on highway as the attack on the fundamental rights of people, saying that they (PDP) have also moved to the court in this regard.

Mehbooba also stated that no elections can be held in JK if the Article 370 is annulled as the relation of JK with union of India will come to an end.

About Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement regarding talks with BJP led government in India; Mehbooba said that PM Narendra Modi has lost a golden opportunity. She added that her father Late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed had belief that talks under the leadership of Modi will be held but that couldn’t take place.

“However, we hope that if Modi gets a chance again then he will grab the opportunity and will initiate talks to resolve the Kashmir issue,” she added.

Earlier, Pak PM Imran Khan had stated that he thinks there may be a better chance of peace talks with India if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins the general election, commencing on Thursday.
Khan has said if the next Indian government were led by the opposition Congress party, it might be too scared to seek a settlement with Pakistan over Kashmir. “Perhaps if the BJP — a right-wing party — wins, some kind of settlement in Kashmir could be reached,” Khan told a small group of foreign journalists in an interview.
