J&K intensifies crackdown against fake handicrafts

Srinagar, Sep 7: In a decisive move to safeguard the authenticity and reputation of Kashmiri handicrafts, the Quality Control Wing of the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir carried out a thorough operation in the Narbal-Tangmarg region today. This operation focused on showrooms suspected of misleading customers by mislabeling machine-made products as authentic handcrafted items.

Led by the Director of Handicrafts and Handloom, officials meticulously reviewed the inventories of various showrooms, with particular attention to carpets, shawls besides other traditional crafts. During the inspection, the department issued strong warnings to showroom owners about the serious consequences of engaging in such deceptive practices. They stressed the importance of providing detailed and accurate billing to ensure transparency and confirm the authenticity of the products.

To help consumers avoid falling victim to these fraudulent practices, the department advised buyers to be vigilant when purchasing Kashmiri handicrafts. They recommended inspecting products closely for any indications of machine manufacturing.
