Srinagar, Nov 06: The government asked the Board of School Education (BOSE) to conduct the examinations of classes 10 to 12 from February 2025 and complete them by March end.
Besides, the government further ordered that the annual examination (summative assessment) of class 8th shall be conducted by concerned schools from the academic session 2024-25 and onwards.
Principal Secretary for School Education Department, Suresh Kumar Gupta in this regard issued the order asking the concerned authorities to implement the November-December session for classes up to the 9th standard.
Gupta in an order said, “Under the Council of Ministers Decision sanction is accorded to the restoration of previous academic calendar (November-December session) that shall be done concerning Kashmir region and winter zone of Jammu.”
“For the session 2024-25, the restoration of the previous academic calendar (November-December session) shall be done concerning classes 1st to 9th whose examinations shall be held during November – December 2024,” it said.
Gupta said that for the students of classes 10th to 12th, the restoration of the Academic Session (to November-December session) shall be done from the academic session 2025-26.
“For the current academic sessions, the J&K Board of School Education shall endeavor to commence the examinations of class 10th – 12th from February-15-2025 and shall complete by ending March-2025,” it reads.
For 8th standard exams, Gupta said, “Annual examination (summative assessment) of class 8th shall be conducted by concerned schools from the academic session 2024-25 and onwards.”
Last month, the government restored the November academic session up to the 9th standard in the winter zone.
“We have heard the requests from parents and children to revert to the previous academic schedule, which better accommodates the harsh winter conditions of the region. Today, we have reintroduced the November session to bring much-needed relief to families in the winter zones,” Omar said
Minister Sakeena Itoo, who moved the initiative, expressed gratitude to the cabinet for supporting the proposal. “I am thankful to the Chief Minister and the entire cabinet for their backing. With this decision, students up to the ninth grade in Kashmir’s winter zones will have their exams scheduled before winter holidays, alleviating the strain of preparing in severe weather,” she explained.
The change, however, will not apply immediately to students in grades 10, 11, and 12, as board exam preparations are already underway.
CM Omar Abdullah assured students and parents that from next year, a similar winter-aligned schedule will be implemented for higher classes, allowing board exams to conclude ahead of the harsh winter.
“This shift will provide relief to our children and their parents,” added CM Abdullah, expressing his appreciation for Sakeena Itoo’s dedication to the initiative.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration led by Lieutenant Governor in 2022 had issued orders for the implementation of a “ uniform academic Calendar” for both Jammu and Kashmir divisions “ in sync with the higher education department and the rest of the country.”
