Reliance has officially launched ‘JioGigaFiber’ fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband service. The announcement was made at the company’s Annual General Meeting in Mumbai. The company plans to extend fiber connectivity to homes, merchants, small and medium enterprises and large enterprises simultaneously across 1,100 cities. The Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio claims the JioGigaFiber is the most advanced fiber-based broadband connectivity solutions.
“When you combine fixed-line connectivity with the agility and customer obsession of a small owner-driven business you empower them to compete on level terms with larger businesses”, said Mukesh Ambani. Reliance JioGigaFiber is pitched as an all-in-one solution that takes care of broadband, IPTV, landline, video conferencing, virtual reality gaming, and beyond. Those interested can register for the JioGigaFiber service from August 15. The company will prioritise the rollout of Jio GigaFiber in localities based on the interest it has received from registrations. JioGigaFiber will compete with leading broadband service providers, as well as satellite cable operators.
The company has been testing its JioGigaFiber service since 2016. As part of the trial, users are entitled to get 100GB of monthly data for 90 days at 100Mbps speed, along with access to Jio’s suite of apps. However, users have to pay Rs 4,500 as a one-time security deposit to avail the offer. With Jio GigaFiber, the company aims to take India to the top five fixed broadband services globally in the coming years.
The JioGigaFiber will come with its own router, to be called as the JioGigaRouter, and along with that users will be able to get the bundled Jio GigaTV, which is essentially the 4K-enabled media streaming box. Besides that, the company has also announced the Jio Smart Home solution which includes smart cameras, smart plugs, IR blasters, smoke sensors, video dongle, TV cameras and more. The appliances and accessories will be interconnected and controlled by the MyJio app.
