Srinagar, Dec 30: Hurriyat (M) Chairman and patron of Awami Action Committee (AAC), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has expressed shock over the attempt of some hooligans trying to violate the sanctity of the pulpit at Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
As reported earlier, a group of masked youth last Friday went inside the historic Jamia Masjid and raised pro-ISIS slogans and flags, while one of them desecrated the masjid’s pulpit by standing atop it with his shoes on.
Taking to micro blogging social networking site Twitter on Sunday, Mirwaiz wrote, “Deeply shocked and saddened by the attempt to violate the sanctity of the pulpit at Jamia Masjid by a group miscreants late on Friday! Such hooliganism that harms the mosque or misuses the name of Islam to spread anarchy and fear among people will not be tolerated at all!
“Jamia Masjid is the fountainhead of both the religious identity and the political aspirations of the people of J&K, engaged in the struggle for Right to Self-determination, inspired by Islamic values of seeking justice and resistance to oppression.”
Mirwaiz, as per a spokesperson, also held a crucial meeting of AAC at Mirwaiz Manzil, Nigeen regarding the incident.
Terming it as shocking the participants said this anti-Islamic act has greatly hurt the religious sentiments of people across the state.
“Such a ploy will not be tolerated by the people at any cost as they hold the mosque and its pulpit in great reverence and regard,” the AAC spokesperson said.
In the meeting it was decided that in connection with this incident of sacrilege, Mirwaiz will offer Zuhr prayers at Jamia Masjid on Monday and will take stock of the situation on ground.
“Mirwaiz will also chair another meeting on Wednesday at 2 pm after which Asr prayers will be offered at the Jamia masjid that will be followed by cleansing the mosque in which volunteers, locals, and the members of Anjuman-e-Auqaf will take part,” the spokesperson said.
It was also decided that Friday January 4 will be observed as Youm-e-Taqadus, where resistance leadership and religious scholars will address people in the mosque besides condemning this act of sacrilege committed by some anti-Islam elements.
Violation of Masjid’s sanctity unacceptable: UJC
Srinagar, Dec 30: Claiming that ISIS does not exist anywhere in J&K, United Jehad Council (UJC), a conglomerate of militant outfits based in Pakistan, Sunday alleged that the attempt to violate the sanctity of the pulpit at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar was the “handiwork of Indian agencies”.
In an emailed statement issued The Kashmir Monitor, the UJC spokesman Syed, Sadaqat Hussain, said: “ISIS does not existing anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir and people are already aware of the fact that Indian agencies are using the name of ISIS to defame and divide the pro-freedom struggle in the state.”
He said that the Muslim Ummah have seen the actions of ISIS in Syria, Libya and Afghanistan where Muslims are butchered at the instance of western powers.
“The historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar is not only the centre of Islamic preaching but also the centre of resistance struggle from 1931 onwards,” the spokesman said.
The UJC Spokesman appealed people to keep a vigil over such people and play their role in exposing them, adding.
“Violation of the sanctity of Jamia Masjid Srinagar at the hands of these agents is unacceptable and highly condemnable and such acts can’t weaken the resistance struggle in Kashmir,” he added.
