Srinagar: The militants who attacked a police party at Nowgam bypass in Srinagar on Friday, leaving two cops dead and another critically injured, belong to Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit and have been identified, police said.
A police official said that militants fired at police party at Nowgam bypass here, leaving two policemen dead and another cop injured.
The slain cops have been identified as Ishfaq Ayoub and Fayaz Ahmed, while the injured one has been identified as Muhammad Ashraf.
Talking to reporters at the site of the incident, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit carried the attack. “The militants have been identified and they will be neutralized soon,” said the Kashmir police chief, according to local news agency KNO.
Kashmir police also tweeted that two police injured in the attack succumbed on way to hospital.
The attack comes a day before I-Day andwhen the entire Kashmir is on a high alert especially Srinagar district.
Two days ago a soldier and a militant were killed and another soldier wounded in a gunfight in south Kashmir on Wednesday.
On the same day, a soldier was wounded when militants fired at an Army vehicle on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway in north Kashmir.
