AWANTIPORA: Enriching the basket of academic courses, IUST shall also offer Masters program in philosophy from the Academic Session 2024-25.
In this regard, Vice Chancellor IUST, Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo said that the programme has been curated to align with the NEP 2020 wherein offering of courses in languages, philosophy etc. have been emphasized for achieving the objectives of multidisciplinary learning. He said that a balance in the course offerings is aimed whereby besides programmes in frontier areas of AI/ Ml, entrepreneurship development, courses in traditional knowledge systems such as AYUSH, Philosophy, Indian languages, etc. shall be offered to help students and scholars to gain holistic perspectives of learning.
Prof A H Moon, Dean Academic Affairs, said that the course shall be offered through Averoes Center for Philosophical Studies and shall be open to students from all branches. Regarding the program, Prof. Lily Want, Director, Averroes Centre for Philosophical Studies said that the major thrust of the program shall be on the distinctive character of philosophical inquiry, debates in metaphysics, epistemology, logic and ethics. She said that while UG program in Philosophy was being offered in Kashmir but students who wanted to pursue advanced studies in the subject often faced the challenge of limited options within the valley.
