In a first of its kind incident in India, a transgender couple from Kerala gave birth to a baby at a government hospital on Wednesday.Zahad is now the first trans man to deliver a baby in India, media reports stated.
“Today is the best day of my life. I received several hurtful messages. Our child’s birth is our response to them. “I want to thank everyone who helped us,” said Ziya Paval, who is Zahad’s partner.”Both the baby and Zahad, her delivery partner, are doing well. The baby was born around 9.30 a.m. via Cesarean Section at the Government Medical College Hospital because Zahad’s sugar level in the body was high at the time of delivery,” Ziya added.
As per reports, Ziya said they will request hospital authorities to register her name as the mother and Zahad as father. However, the trans couple has not revealed the newborn’s gender identity.
Ziya, who was born as a man, and Zahad, who was born as a woman, had even started a sex reassignment procedure after deciding to live together.
