Srinagar, August 3: IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi chaired a crime review meeting at Police Control Room Kashmir which was attended by all range DIsG, all district SSsP, JDP ZPHQ, and all in-charge Pairvi cells of Kashmir Zone & other senior officers.
At the outset of the meeting, the participating officers briefed IGP Kashmir about the overall crime situation of the Kashmir Zone and highlighted their efforts in preventing crime and improving the quality of investigation. Besides general crime, the meeting revolved around the investigation of cases falling under UAPA, the status of property attachment in UAPA cases, terror-related and terror financing cases, and detention under PSA and NDPS/ Narco-terror cases. In addition, action taken under preventive measures, pending inquest proceedings, and arrest of absconders was also discussed. The district SSsP gave PowerPoint presentations highlighting their crime prevention efforts, the status of the investigation, and the disposal of crime in their respective districts.
IGP Kashmir stressed upon the participants to improve the quality of investigation to improve the conviction rate. IGP Kashmir reviewed the general crime investigation and appreciated the dedication and commitment exhibited by all the districts in reducing the crime rate and improving the overall law & order situation. He directed the officers to devise a robust Pairvi system to get a conviction of the NDPS and UAPA cases to break down the narco-criminal and terror ecosystem. He also directed the in-charge Pairvi cells to review their cases periodically so that the same are submitted for judicial determination within the prescribed period. IGP Kashmir also stressed upon the officers to conduct training sessions for the Investigating Officers (IOs) about the new laws.
V.K. Birdi directed the district heads to organize regular workshops focusing on NDPS cases to improve upon the pendency in drug-related offenses. He also advised district heads to take a proactive role in overseeing and chairing regular crime meetings within their respective districts.
In the end, IGP Kashmir reiterated the commitment of J&K Police to transparency, accountability & swift resolution of cases to ensure timely justice and well-being of the public.
