Hakeem Yaseen condemns ban on TV channels; asks Governor to revoke order

Srinagar, Jul 19: Chairman PDF and MLA Khansahib Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has strongly condemned Government decision to ban transmission of about thirty TV channels in the state adding that this was a deliberate attack on the freedom of expression.

In a statement issued, Hakeem Yaseen has said that the decision was most disgusting and against the wishes of the people belonging to a particular section of the society. While demanding immediate revocation of the ban order, Hakeem Yaseen said that most of these channels are a rich source of moral education aimed at to eradicate evils from the society.

While expressing his concern on the ban order on TV channels, Hakeem Yaseen has said that it seems that a deliberate effort is being made to polarize the people and create void between the communities. He said instead of banning channels teaching morality, Government should have stopped those channels which provide platform to communal elements to promote communal hatred on the basis of religion and region through debates and discussions.

Hakeem Yaseen has asked Governor N N Vohra not to come under the influence of vested forces as this decision is seen as a scourge against a particular community and a particular school of thought. He said people of the state do not expect any such step from the Governor that may hurt their sentiments. “Therefore the ban order on various TV channels need to be revoked forthwith,” Hakeem Yaseen added.
