Guest Lecture Series: Prof GM. Dhar delivers speech on `role of public health’ at GMC’s Community Medicine department

Srinagar: Prof. GM. Dhar, former professor and head of the Community Medicine department at GMC, Srinagar, today delivered a lecture on the role of public health and community medicine in the current health scenario.

Prof Dhar was invited by the Community Medicine department, Government Medical College Srinagar to deliver the guest lecture.   Dr. Dhar, who has decades-long experience in health management in the country and abroad, was also the Joint Director of SKIMS.

An alumnus of Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, and King George Medical College, Lucknow has been instrumental in establishing and expansion of social and preventive medicine (now community medicine) specialty in Jammu and Kashmir.

He has authored numerous books on Community Medicine and Islam including Foundations of Community Medicine. Dr. G M Dhar, an octogenarian, while sharing his life experiences and struggles, extolled the young public health specialists to work for community health in community settings which brings real health improvements at ground level.

The lecture is a part of the Series started wherein renowned personalities from various allied specialties would be invited to share their life experiences and deliver on important health and allied issues concerning globally, nationally, and locally, said Dr. S. Muhammad Salim Khan, professor, and head, Community Medicine department, Government Medical College Srinagar.

The guest lecture series is being conducted under the aegis of J&K Chapters of the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM) and the Indian Public Health Association (IPHA).
