Jammu, Feb 07: In a major step towards child protection in the state the child welfare committees (CWCs ) in all the districts have been constituted .The committee is district level bench of five magistrates which has the competence to adjudicate cases related to children in need of care and protection.
In a communiqué received from Chief Executive Officer /Mission Director ICPS /Juvenile Justice Hilal Bhat it is informed that details of all these committees have been notified .
Pertinently constitution of these statutory bodies is being monitored by the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and also Minister for Social Welfare had given an assurance to the members of the Legislative Assembly that CWCs will be constituted which has been fulfilled in the fixed timelines.
This major initiative by the social welfare department gives children in need of care and protection and in conflict, legal options for their betterment and welfare.
