GDC G’bal hosts seminar on ‘Alamdar, the Founder of our Socio-Cultural Heritage’

GANDERBAL, NOVEMBER 05: The Department of Kashmiri at Government Degree College, Ganderbal, organized a significant seminar dedicated to the revered figure Shaikh Noor ud Din Wali (R.A.), also known as Alamdar-e-Kashmir. The event, held in the college’s conference hall, featured a series of enlightening discussions and presentations. The program commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by student Shabir Ahmad Lone, followed by the recitation of Shaikh Shurukhs by Kamran Nazir.

Dr. Nusrat Iqbal, head of the Department of Kashmiri, delivered the opening address, emphasizing the multidimensional nature of Shaikh ul Aalam. She highlighted his exceptional contributions as a poet, preacher, religious scholar, and intellectual, noting that his teachings are vital for both personal and communal upliftment.

The college principal, Prof. Fouzia Fatima, warmly welcomed the guests and spoke on the importance of understanding Shaikh ul Aalam’s teachings. She stressed the need to educate the new generation about his contributions to Kashmiri society and beyond, advocating for his moral teachings as foundational for harmonious living.

Noted Kashmiri writer, expert interpreter of Sheikh ul Aalam’s wisdom, and J&K Wakf Board member, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Haleem, addressed the audience, reflecting on Kashmir’s rich literary heritage and the significance of Shaikh ul Aalam’s poetry. He noted that the Shurukhs serve not only as an emotional touchstone but also as a means to understand cultural identity. 

Three students from the college—Bisma Mehraj, Samir Ahmad Khan, and Rafia Qayoom—presented insightful papers on the life and teachings of Shaikh ul Aalam (R.A.). The seminar included an engaging question-and-answer session that encouraged dialogue about his legacy.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Aashiq Hussain Mir, Assistant Professor in the Department of Kashmiri, who expressed gratitude to all participants and attendees for contributing to the successful commemoration of Shaikh ul Aalam’s enduring impact on Kashmiri culture. This seminar served as a valuable reminder of the profound influence of Shaikh Noor ud Din Wali (R.A.) on both the spiritual and cultural landscape of Kashmir.
