The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the need for stricter access control and regular patrolling around the project sites. He also directed the security forces and the police to conduct coordinated counter-terrorism operations proactively to wipe out terrorism in J&K UT.
Lieutenant Governor underlined the need for securing the vital infrastructure projects across J&K UT and putting in place a multi-pronged and foolproof mechanism for coordination with project implementing agencies to prevent security breaches. He said the safety and security of workers and officers working on key infrastructure projects is the highest priority for the government.
On Monday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha asked the police and security forces to put in all efforts to track down and punish the terrorists involved in the Gagangir terror attack.
“Innocent lives were lost (in Gagangir) which in no way can be tolerated. I urge the police force to track down the perpetrators and punish them sternly,” he said.
LG also said that the threat of terrorism emanating from the neighboring country has not died down. “Efforts are on to destabilize peace in J&K. We need to be vigilant about the elements trying to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in J&K,” he said.
LG hailed J&K police for their bravery and for working professionally on multiple fronts. “The police force in J&K is a great example of valor, zeal, and professionalism. Be it maintaining law and order, fighting terror, dealing with crime, or helping people in rainfall or snowfall, the police are at the forefront always. People should acknowledge the police role and extend full cooperation to the force,” he said.
LG reiterated that policy “begunahon ko chedo mat aur gunahgaar ko chodo mat (Don’t touch innocents but don’t leave the accused”. “Directions in this regard have been passed to police and other forces which are being implemented in spirit since the past four years,” he said.
Earlier Sinha laid a wreath at Martyrs’ Memorial, Armed Police Complex, Zewan, and paid tributes to brave police officers and personnel who have laid down their lives in the line of duty.
