Four soldiers killed in Doda; LG pays tribute

JAMMU, JULY 16: An army officer and three other soldiers were killed in an anti-terror operation in Doda.

An army spokesperson said that the operation took place yesterday late at night after a joint operation by the Indian Army and JKP was carried out in the General area North of Doda.

“Contact with terrorists was established at about 2100h in which heavy firefight ensued. Initial reports suggest injuries to our bravehearts. Additional troops have been moved into the area. Operations are continuing,” said the Army yesterday in a post on X.

Meanwhile, reports have confirmed that around three soldiers and an Army officer have died in the operation.  

“Deeply saddened by the loss of our brave and courageous Indian Army Soldiers in a counter-terrorist operation in Urrar Baggi, Doda (J&K). My heart goes out to the bereaved families. The Nation stands firmly with the families of our soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty,” said Defence Minister Rajanth Singh in an X post.

He said counter-terrorism operations are underway, “and our soldiers are committed to eliminating the scourge of terrorism and restoring peace and order in the region.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha laid a wreath and paid homage to Captain Brijesh Thapa, Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendra, and Sepoy Ajay, who made supreme sacrifices during an anti-terror operation in Doda.

“I salute the brave warriors who displayed exemplary courage and made supreme sacrifice for the nation. The nation will never forget the sacrifice made by the gallant heroes. The entire nation stands firmly with the families of martyrs in this hour of grief,” the Lt Governor said.
