Jammu, Mar 30: The Congress in Jammu suffered a big jolt on Saturday with a senior party leader and former legislator, Sham Lal Sharma, joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Sham Lal was welcomed in BJP fold by party’s National Vice-President and J&K Prabhari Avinash Rai Khanna and state president Ravinder Raina along with hundreds of his supporters.
Speaking on the occasion, Sham Lal Sharma said, “I decided to join BJP for the larger interest of Jammu, particularly to end years’ long discrimination.”
Sharma is also brother of two times Congress MP Madan lal Sharma. Earlier Sharma resigned from the Post of Vice President of Congress last year charged the leadership with ignoring the core issues of Jammu and failed to strike a balance between all three regions of the state, including Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Two times MLA Sharma lost to BJP’s Rajiv Sharma in the Akhnoor Assembly seat by a margin of 9,380 votes in the last assembly Elections.
