Srinagar: Fashion-fame Bollywood Director Madhur Bhandarkar Thursday said the new Film Policy-2024 will send a positive message to the film industry and attract filmmakers to shoot in Kashmir.

Addressing a gathering at the J&K Film Conclave at SKICC, Bhandarkar said the film policy and Single Window Portal will lure both Hindi and South cinema.

“This film policy is the best. It will send messages to industry, not just Mumbai but South also to shoot their films in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

Bhandarkar said the single window system makes film shooting in Jammu and Kashmir easier. “We often choose a place where it is very easy to shoot. Through the Single Window System, a filmmaker will get permission easily.  It is quite appreciable,” he said.

The ace Bollywood director suggested the tourism department explore more offbeat and unexplored destinations to give a variety of choices for shooting to the filmmakers.

“I feel happy and like every location here. I urge the tourism department to explore the unexplored off-beat locations for film shooting,” he said.

Bhandarkar said the revival of shooting in Kashmir will benefit the locals at large. “Locals will benefit in terms of talent, acting, music, and writing.”

Bhandarkar said he has developed a relationship with Kashmir and prefers to visit the place very often.

“I have been visiting Kashmir frequently for the past 17 years. It began in 2007 and sometimes, I visit this place twice a year. I have many friends here. The food and locations are amazing,” he said.
