Srinagar, Oct 5: Family members of slain Nazir Ahmad Bhat, one of the National Conference (NC) workers shot dead on Friday, claim the deceased was the “most helpful person around” and killing him is a “part of some conspiracy”.
“He was innocent, who never wronged any person. It is some conspiracy, why did they kill him?” cries Gousia, slain Nazir’ssister-in-law.
Nazir, a NC worker from Kanikadal, here, was shot dead along with his party companion Mushtaq Ahmad, resident of Pamposh Colony Noorbagh Kadal here in old Srinagar.
Shakeel Ahmad Ganie, also a NC worker, sustained bullet injury in the attack.
According to his sister-in-law, Nazir had left home to get groceries.
“We did not know that we will hear the news of his death,” Gousia says.
Nazir, who was Personal Assistant to legislative assembly member Shamima Firdous, is survived by his handicapped father, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, his mother, wife, and two siblings.
Nazir’s mother, Khazra, says, “His death left us broken and tormented. He was our support, particularly to his father. To whom shall we express our sorrows?”
She tries to console her daughter, Tabasum, saying: “Don’t cry. When his body will arrive, you known that your brother was the most religious person. If you will cry he will suffer.”
Tabasum recalls her brother as “the most helpful and a kind person in the area”.
“He used to serve people in every possible way,” she says. “He used to drop me home. Now, he is gone.”
Shakeel, 40, a butcher and the Halqa President for NC, has minor bullet injuries in his wrist.
The attack was carried out near his shop, and he had rushed home with his wounded wrist to seek help, his family told The Kashmir Monitor.
He was taken to the hospital, where he was under treatment till the last reports arrived.
His niece says the slain activists were “good friends” of Shakeel.
“Both were like my uncles, and used to visit our home very often,” she says.
