Srinagar, Mar 13: Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) J&K Wednesday condemned the arrest of its legal expert Mir Assadullah of Pulwama by police terming it a “well-planned ploy to retreat Jamaat from approaching court to contest the baseless allegations levelled against it.”
According to a statement by JeI, a few days ago Pulwama police called Mir to the station.
“He was not allowed to go back home and since then Mir is languishing in police custody which is an ample and spacious evidence that government is not willing to allow Jamaat to approach court and contest the concocted allegations leveled by government of India while imposing ban,” the statement read.
It added that police, since JeI was banned, have arrested 300 of its members and associates.
“A few were slapped by the draconian law Public Safety Act,” a statement said.
Jamaat, as per the statement, reiterated that the allegations leveled by government of India will be contested in court with strong and valid argument.
“But caging our legal expert at this juncture seems a well-planned conspiracy to retreat Jamaat from opting legal course of action,” the statement added.
