EJAC expels ex-prez Qayoom Wani

Srinagar, Feb 1: Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) Jammu and Kashmir on Friday has expelled Abdul Qayoom Wani from its membership after he made the announcement of joining mainstream politics.

“Today at 3 pm, we received resignation from Abdul Qayoom Wani who was the President of both EJAC quoting some personal engagements. It has come to our notice that he is joining a political party which is against the constitution of EJAC. Ours is an apolitical organization and we expel him from EJAC with effect from today after 3:30 pm,” said Khursheed Ahmed Bhat, General Secretary EJAC JK in a press conference at Press Club Kashmir here.

General Secretary further added: We called an apex body meeting today and we have decided to accept his resignation unanimously. On 9th of February, our general council body meeting will decide our future president and till then we are appointing Fayaz Ahmed Shabnam, currently Vice President EJAC, as caretaker President.

The apex body of EJAC who attended the press conference was Sajad Ahmed Parry, Shabir Ahmed Langoo, Manzoor Ahmed Pampori and Lateef Ahmed Malik.

Abdul Qayoom Wani who was the president of EJAC JK and Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF) on Friday resigned from both the organisations to join People’s Democratic Party (PDP).He is planning to enter the electoral fray as PDP candidate from North Kashmir Lok Sabha constituency in the upcoming elections.
