Srinagar, Mar 3: The sale of vegetable seedlings (Knol Khol, Cauliflower, Cabbage) was kick started by Director Agriculture Kashmir Altaf Aijaz Andrabi today at kitchen garden lalmandi, here today.
The sale witnessed huge rush of vegetable growers from Srinagar and adjacent areas.
Interacting with the growers, the Director said that department is committed to promote the Kitchen Garden Scheme and aims at providing quality vegetable seedlings to the growers so that surplus vegetables are exported. He said that the department is providing quality and healthy seedlings to growers and makes vegetable growing sector a remunerative venture.
The Director said it is the endeavor of the department to provide vegetable seedling on subsidized rates, besides its early distribution thus saving the time for growing such seeds in the open field. The popularity of such an effort is demonstrated by the presence of large number of people at the point of sale for which the rush was regulated through policing.
He impressed the officers to promote the kitchen gardening in such a way that growers get more and more benefits from the scheme. He said vegetable production not only contributes to the daily consumption of population, but it can be adopted for commercial purpose as well.
He said vegetable cultivation has a good potential of employment generation and the unemployed youth of the Valley with the help of modern technology and suitable agro-climatic conditions forvegetable cultivation in the Valley, can take it to new heights.
Besides, Joint Director Agriculture Inputs Deepak Kumar Kuchroo, Seed Production Officer Manzoor Ahmad Shah, Altaf Ahmad Incharge Kitchen Garden Scheme Lalmandi, Srinagar, other senior officers of the department were also present on the occasion.
