Srinagar, Mar 5: Governor Satya Pal Malik on Tuesday said that Election Commission of India (ECI) is responsible for holding of assembly and parliamentary polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The ECI team is here. They are responsible for the exercise and will take a call,” Malik told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Jammu when asked whether the government was prepared to hold polls in the state.
The ECI team, which completed its two-day visit to the state on Tuesday, and reviewed the security situation ahead of assembly and parliamentary polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
The team also met representatives of various political parties. Most of the political parties pitched for holding parliamentary and assembly polls simultaneous in Jammu and Kashmir. The team also got feedback from the senior functionaries of state administration about the security situation in the state.
In his address at a function, the Governor said that richer people were becoming richer and poor becoming poorer in India. “Nobody is concerned about backward section of the people. These people have no leaders. While rich becomes richer in India,” he said.
