Srinagar, Mar 04: Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) Chairman Hakeem Mohammad Yasin and President Democratic Party (Nationalist) (DPN) Ghulam Hassan Mir in their joint briefing to the visiting team of the Election Commission of India (ECI) sought early assembly election now over due in the state and if situation demands better delay Lok Sabha elections but not assembly elections.
After meeting jointly the visiting poll panel in Srinagar, both Hakeem and Mir said that they have impressed upon the visiting team of the Election Commission of India to hold right in earnest assembly elections and even before proposed Lok Sabha elections to facilitate restoration of popular rule in Jammu and Kashmir state.
Saying that they told the members of ECI team about the unethical constitutional amendments enforced in absence of popular rule in the state presently under presidential rule, both Hakeem and Mir said that they conveyed to ECI team about the alienation deepening to a crisis like situation due to unpopular decisions of the Governor’s administration and henceforth the necessity of holding early assembly elections in the state.
Both Hakeem and Mir said that they exhorted the visiting team of the Election Commission of India to ensure at least simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections if the commission cannot hold assembly election before Lok Sabha election.
Both the leaders said that they told the visiting team of Election Commission of India that if the panchayat and municipal elections were held in a peaceful atmosphere in the state few months back then why can’t Lok Sabha and assembly elections be held simultaneously.
