New Delhi: Over 3 crore e-way bills were generated on the portal by May 2, almost a month since the system was introduced in the country, according to a top official.
“On the night of May 2, almost a month after the EWB system was rolled out, the total e-way bills generated crossed the 3 crore mark. Number of e-way bills generated for both inter- and intra-state movements of goods has been increasingly steadily,” said Prakash Kumar, CEO, GSTN.
Under the GST regime, e-way bills are to be necessarily generated by transporters for movement of goods beyond 10 kms which have a value of Rs 50,000 and above.
The number of e-way bills (EWB) being generated every day (both inter-state as well as intra state) has been increasing steadily as more and more states gradually implement e-way bills for intra-state transport of goods.
So far, 17 states and one union territory have successfully moved on to the e-way bill system for intra-state movements as well after the EWB system was rolled out on April 1, 2018.
Of the total e-way bills generated so far, 79 per cent of the bills were for intra-state, while 21 per cent were for inter-state movement of goods.
Almost 61 per cent of the total bills generated were from 5 states. Gujarat lead with 18 per cent followed by Karnataka (13 per cent) and Maharashtra (11 per cent) UP (10 per cent) and Haryana (8.9 per cent) formed the top five.
