SRINAGAR, JULY 12: The Department of Neurosurgery at SKIMS inaugurated its first Neurosurgery Master Class today at the SKIMS Auditorium. This initiative aims to explore new techniques, innovations, and advancements in neurosurgery through various academic activities, enhancing patient care delivery. The event was graced by eminent figures in Neurosurgery, including Dr. Atul Goel and Dr. Afzal Wani, the founder and former HOD of Neurosurgery at SKIMS, honored as the Patriarch and Father of Neurosurgery in Jammu & Kashmir.
The event commenced with an introduction by guest speaker Dr. Atul Goel, a globally acclaimed pioneer in Neurosurgery. Dr. Abrar A. Wani, in his introductory speech, expressed gratitude to Dr. Goel for his significant contributions to the field, including impactful research, innovative techniques, and extensive academic achievements..
Chief Guest, Director SKIMS Dr. M Ashraf Ganie, spoke highly of the commendable efforts of the Neurosurgery Department under the leadership of Dr. Sarabjit Singh. He warmly welcomed the distinguished gathering of dignitaries, esteemed medical luminaries and all other attendees. Dr. Ganie underscored the pivotal role of Dr. Goel, recognizing him as a paradigmatic figure whose groundbreaking research and innovative techniques have a profound impact on enhancing global patient care standards. Dr. Ganie expressed his earnest aspiration for the Neurosurgery Department to steadfastly uphold and build upon the rich legacy established by visionary pioneers such as Dr. Afzal Wani and others.
Dr. Afzal Wani, honored as the Patriarch and Father of Neurosurgery in Jammu & Kashmir, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the recognition, describing neurosurgery as a calling. He praised SKIMS neurosurgeons for their significant contributions to the field. Dean Medical Faculty, Prof. Shariq R. Masoodi, highlighted the event’s role in promoting new patient care practices and fostering collaborations through productive academic sessions. He thanked all participants, including guest speaker Dr. Goel, for their involvement.
Organizing Chairman and HOD of Neurosurgery, Dr. Sarabjit Singh Chhiber, along with event Co-organizer Dr. Nayil K. Mallik, offered an in-depth overview of the department’s operations and the significance of today’s event. They highlighted its crucial role in advancing neurosurgical techniques and elevating patient care standards at SKIMS. Dr. Sarabjit emphasized, “The Neurosurgery Master Class is a purposeful initiative intended to be a regular feature. It will include live workshops and various academic activities aimed at staying abreast of the latest innovations and advanced treatment modalities, thereby significantly benefiting patient care at SKIMS.”
Former HODs, including Dr. Altaf Ramzan, Prof. Altaf Kirmani, and Dr. J. P. Singh from Narayana Hospital Jammu, along with the Medical Superintendent of SKIMS Dr. Farooq A Jan also addressed the gathering, reflecting on their experiences and contributions.
