Srinagar, Mar 29: Kashmir Valley recorded the second fatality due to the novel coronavirus after a man in his 50s from Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district died during we hours on Sunday.
A senior government officer said that the man died at Chest Disease hospital at around 4:00 am.
A doctor said that the man was referred from SMHS hospital and had tested positive only yesterday.
Sources in the hospital told The Kashmir Monitor that the man had no travel history.
Sources at the hospital rejected reports of the patient being placed on a ventilator saying the deceased’s family had refused him to be intubated.
Government’s spokesperson Rohit Kansal also confirmed the same on his Twitter handle, which has become the government’s first line of information about latest updates on coronavirus in Kashmir.
News agency GNS quoted a police officer at Tangmarg also confirming the man’s death
“Police has been ordered to make necessary arrangements,” he said.
With his death, the number of fatalities due to COVID-19 has raised two in Kashmir Valley.
On Thursday last, a 65-year-old from Hyderpora died of the disease, making it the first case of death due to Coronavirus. (With inputs from GNS)
