Srinagar, Mar 31: The kin of an aide working for Srinagar Mayor Junaid Matoo has tested for coronavirus forcing authorities to issue directions to place in isolation the guards who have been escorting the mayor.

Sources said the brother of one aide working for the Mayor has tested positive for the virus on Tuesday.

The aide, who had obvious contact with the Mayor as well, is among the seven fresh cases detected in Kashmir during the day.

As the news came through, the security establishment directed the SSB personnel who were deployed for escort duty with the mayor for the last 10 days to go into isolation.

“As a precautionary measure, they have been asked to be in isolation being the probable suspects for Covid-19,” sources added.

“There are chances that these personnel have come in contact with the aide or any other officials, who may have been in contact with the aide.”

These days, the Mayor is having a busy schedule conducting fumigation drives in areas from where positive patients are detected.

Matoo is also very active on Twitter and keeps people informed about any developments regarding his work as Mayor and the efforts Municipal officials are putting in and risks they are taking by going to such areas to sanitise them.

His aide turning out to be a direct contact of a positive case means the Mayor too may be asked to self-isolate for his own well-being.
