In the backdrop of an increase in COVID positive cases. The media has to play a permanent role in every aspect to strengthen the safety of the people. COVID19 is a global epidemic and it is still difficult to say what Complexities it will bring in the days to come. In the last days of the first week of September in Jammu and Kashmir, COVID-positive cases seem to have taken off. Evidence suggests that the situation will not improve in the coming days, but the number of positive cases will increase rapidly. On one hand, while the administration is urging adherence to guidelines for precautionary measures, but on the ground, there is still a need to work hard to implement the SOPs for COVID 19. In bazaars, offices, factories, and vehicles, only 20 to 30 percent of people yet wear masks, use sanitizers, and keep body distances, while 70 percent of people have been seen to work with ease, based on personal observation.
If the situation does not change gradually, it can become very serious. Therefore, every group and individual, whether sitting in a government or non-government sector or working home or outside, has a responsibility to play their part in this disaster to the best of their ability. It is too late to dig a well at the time of fire, the wisdom is that man should not be negligent in his own way and just as he runs away from rain, flood, hurricane, fire or any significant calamity, so is this microbial disaster and we have adopt the principles of prevention to avoid them.
If a person cannot do even simple things like wearing a mask, using a sanitizer and staying away from mob, then he does not have the right to make tall claims. These are the things of the beginning, who started it and followed it, then he will surely be able to easily learn and decide the next stages of abstinence. COVID 19 is a new pandemic, with awareness everywhere in the media, from television to radio to social media, all the information that has been gained so far, with the right access to human knowledge. There is a great deal of awareness. In Jammu and Kashmir too, governmental and non-governmental organizations and associations do a lot of work by contributing. For the last 5 months, “Athrout”, an NGO, has been regularly providing expert information in Kashmiri language through Facebook to the public. Similarly, other institutions also do other good job, but according to Allama Iqbal(RA)
“ہم تو مائل بہ کرم ہیں کوئی سائل ہی نہیں”
“We are inclined to be Kind…..but there is no one to seek it”
Our worthy Imams play a very important role in awakening. That they should speak directly in Friday Sermons, especially about the measures to be taken to avoid this pandemic, because now is not the time to say that “Delhi is far away”, but to give it to everyone at the earliest opportunity. The work has to be done. However, Imams can speak on this subject only when they are aware and knowledgeable , for which they have to study with special diligence. Then an Imam can deliver a message in his speech in a reasonable and effective manner. It is gratifying to know that the Department of Health has already started training scholars in this regard, which is a good news.
Then comes is the role of teachers, who can never be overlooked, giving advice as to not to compromise on “SOPs” when teaching online classes or receiving forms, but to strongly urge students or candidates to take the exam. That they follow the SOPs. And don’t undertake work of students who are sluggish in implementing SOPs. Two minutes during a thirty minute online class would be better if we talked about reliable information and instructions about the COVID 19.
It is not out of the question to say here that Community Classes are now in vogue, although the clash of community classes and online classes is also an issue in place, but the worrying is that increasingly positive cases and Continuing community classes۔۔۔؟ Isn’t it a trouble, both at the risk the teacher and the child. And now that the month of September is underway and almost the entire curriculum has been taught and the exams are approaching, isn’t the community classes a hindrance to exam preparation? All these things should be seriously considered by the education department.
Health experts have recently recommended that social media should also be used for awareness. So in social media, experts, netizens , writers, poets, software app developers have a role to play in this difficult time with the sensitization of their art.
Not a minute should be wasted on everything that is done to survive in the storm. These days will pass anyway. If the duration is long, then patience too should be long and not over.
