Srinagar, Oct 13: Militants shot dead a policeman at his home in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday night, police said.
A top police official said that militants barged inside the house of Javid Ahmad Lone, son of Abdul Khaliq Lone in Warpora at around 10:45 pm and fired upon him, reported news agency GNS. Javid was a follower in the police department.
Lone suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to the nearby hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
“Javid was fired upon by the militants at his home in Warpora and later he succumbed. He was working as a follower in the police department and was on leave,” GNS quoted SP Sopore Javid Iqbal as having said.
Army, Special Operations Group of the state police and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the attackers, said the official.
Later a wreath laying ceremony for the slain cop was held at DPL Sopore early Saturday morning.
Senior police officers led by DIG NKR laid floral wreaths on the mortal remains and paid rich tributes to the slain policeman.
Javeed is survived by ailing mother, wife, 5-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son.
