Srinagar, Sep 4: Predicting an NC-Congress government in Jammu and Kashmir, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi today asked party supporters to ensure to support collation candidates.

Addressing a series of rallies, Rahul said if the NC-Congress alliance wins the election, their first task would include filling all government vacancies, raising the age limit for job applicants to 40 years, regularizing daily wagers, and increasing their income.

Rahul said restoring statehood to Jammu & Kashmir would be a top priority for the Congress and its allies if they come to power.

He said democracy requires a state to have its assembly where issues can be discussed and laws made, which Jammu and Kashmir currently lacks.

“The definition of democracy doesn’t fit a place that has been reduced from a state to a UT,” Gandhi said.

Addressing another rally in Anantnag, he spoke about the personal ties he has with the people of the state. “You know that you and I have a blood relation. This is not a political relationship. Be it Rajiv Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, or Jawaharlal Nehru, it is an old relationship. Whatever you want from me, my doors are always open for you. I want to serve you in Parliament. I will raise your issues, your pain, and your sorrow. The country needs to know that this is the first time in India’s history that a state has become a Union Territory,” he said.

Joining him on stage were National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah, NC MP from South Kashmir Mian Altaf, and senior Congress leaders.

Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections are set to commence on September 18, with results scheduled to be announced on October 8. The Congress party is contesting the elections in alliance with the National Conference (NC), led by Farooq Abdullah. Together, the two parties will contest 83 seats—51 for the NC and 32 for the Congress.
