Commissioner SMC reviews Muharram preparedness

SRINAGAR, JULY 13: Dr. Owais Ahmed IAS, Commissioner SMC, today conducted a tour to review Muharram arrangements in Khomeini Chowk Bemina, Srinagar. He was accompanied by the Joint Commissioner and Superintending Engineer, City Drainage Circle SMC, along with Senior Officers of the Corporation. Dr. Owais engaged with Senior Citizens and area representatives to assess preparedness for the ongoing Muharram Ul Haram 2024 observance.

Constructive discussions were held with the Intizam-e-Committee, Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian, regarding the repair of damaged manholes around Imam Bargah, macadamization of lanes, installation of street lights, development of Imam Bargah Park, and availability of 24×7 drinking water.

The Commissioner issued directions to enhance critical areas like cleanliness, sanitation, street lighting, and continuous water supply during Muharram gatherings. Safety concerns were addressed with a focus on the installation, repair, and maintenance of street lights to ensure the well-being of mourners, especially during evening processions.

The SMC’s commitment to provide basic civic facilities involves collaborating with all stakeholders for smooth and respectful Muharram observance. The SMC is always ready to provide full support and services to ensure a peaceful commemoration of this significant occasion.

Moreover, the City Drainage Circle, SMC, has developed 5800 meters of drain, including a 45-cusec Dewatering Station at Khomeini Chowk Bemina amounting to Rs. 11.57 crores. Additionally, 4000 meters of inner roads have been macadamized, including Bemina Khomeini Chowk main road with 1000 meters of grade work, amounting to Rs. 1.75 crores.
