Srinagar, Jun 21: A week after senior journalist Syed Shujaat Bukhari’s assassination at Srinagar’s Press Enclave, police have installed CCTV camera and also deployed a bullet proof vehicle in the vicinity.
On June 14, Bukhari, the Editor-In-Chief of The Rising Kashmir newspaper, was shot dead along with his two PSOs by unidentified gunmen.
Talking to the Superintendent of Police (SP) Srinagar East jurisdiction, Dawood Ayub said that few measures have already been taken.
“A bullet-proof vehicle has been deployed at Press Enclave few days back. We will take adequate measures needed to ensure peaceful atmosphere at the place,” he said.
Asked about the rumours that some teenager has been lodged at Kothi Bagh, Police station, in connection with Bukhari’s killing, Ayub said that no one has been arrested.
“The Police has made only one arrest in the case as has been reported. Only questioning is being done. We call people to the Police station, after questioning, we allow them to return home. In fact, the questioning is being done on daily basis,” he said.
As has been reported, a day after the incident, police had arrested a suspect who, in a video, was seen stealing a pistol of the one of the dead PSOs.
As per the sources, two bunkers are coming up to enhance the vigil in and around the Press Enclave, which witnesses huge rush of people throughout the day. Besides media houses it also houses many government offices.
On Thursday, many people were surprised to see the CCTV camera installed on one of the electric poles at the Enclave.
