BlackBerry Ghost coming to India this summer: Report

Back in February, popular tipster Evan Blass revealed that BlackBerry was planning to launch a bezel-less premium Android smartphone– BlackBerry Ghost– in India in the coming months. He had also revealed that the phone would be designed and manufactured by Optiemus Infracom, the company which holds the license to BlackBerry brand in India. But other that that, there has been no news surrounding the smartphone so far. And months later, Blass has tipped BlackBerry Ghost for a summer release in India.

“After nothing new on these BlackBerry Ghost handsets from Optiemus for awhile, finally hearing that a summer release is expected,” Blass wrote in his tweet indicating towards the launch of more than one variants of the upcoming BlackBerry Ghost smartphone. In his tweet, Blass has also revealed that the phones will feature a dual rear camera setup along with low light enhancement capability and optical zoom.

Last week a report by Business Insider India suggested that Optiemus Infracom was planning to launch new phones under the iconic brand in India which will be designed and manufactured in India. As per the report, these smartphones will be sold in India first and then in the other regions of the world should the other license holders such as TCL Communications and BB Merah Putih choose to do so. Apart from this, the report also said that these phones will be launched with the next two quarters of the year.

Meanwhile, industry insiders have largely been silent about the details of BlackBerry Ghost. However, reports dating back to February suggest that Ghost is going to feature a bezel-less design with an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is also likely to come with a single camera in the front. However, unlike KeyONE, Ghost is not expected to feature a QWERTY keypad, which means that the company could be divulging from its conventional design.

Apart from this, all we know so far is that the Android smartphone will fall under the premium segment and will be available only in black colour. Although, no further details about the device have been revealed so far, we hope to hear more about the specifications and other key details soon.
