Srinagar. : Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Owais Ahmed on Tuesday said that the Balidan Stambh in Srinagar is fully prepared ahead of the 15th August ceremony.
“Our timeline was to complete the Balidan Stambh before 15th August so that the ceremony can be done on 15th August,” Owais told reporters at Balidan Stambh while reviewing the successful completion of the project.
Owais praised the hard work and dedication of all those involved, from workers to the Smart City team. “This is a big achievement. This is the hard work of all those who were working here,” he added.
Owais said that the Balidan Stambh symbolizes the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives for the country, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.
“I would like to invite all of you to come here and feel that this memorial has been made. This signifies the people who have sacrificed their lives for the country,” Owais said adding that the memorial will remain open to the public without any entry fee.
Regarding the city’s preparations for Independence Day, Owais said that all arrangements by the SMC are in place. “Whether it is the main menu or the SMC complex, the preparations are complete. From sanitation to road maintenance, drainage maintenance, and water supply, everything has been taken care of,” Owais said, adding that the project was completed within a budget of Rs 4.8 crores.
