Srinagar: Apples served instead of cold drinks alongside ‘wazwan’ during a wedding ceremony has elated the people in Kashmir valley.
The novel gesture of the hosts during a city-based wedding has come at a time when apple growers were reportedly not getting ‘good rates’ in the outside markets and when innovations to ‘wazwan’ and meat layer coverings on ‘trami’ were being censured on social media.
‘Coke has been replaced by apple in Kashmiri wazwan which I saw today in a marriage ceremony,” wrote a netizen while posting the photograph of the serving of apples on Facebook.
The post went viral on Sunday and later videos of the serving of apples too were widely shared on social media.
Some termed the step ‘revolutionary’ while hoping that others would follow the trend.
“A revolutionary step forward!
*Apples distributed in Wazwan instead of Coke in Rawalpora Srinagar*
In Rawalpora Srinagar guests in Wazwan were taken by surprise as apples were distributed in place of cold drinks (coke).
The guests appreciated the novel gesture. Currently, apple growers are not getting good rates for their produce and this step is a welcome gesture.
Moreover, apples being natural are a healthier alternative to cold drinks. Hope the trend is followed elsewhere too in Kashmir Valley. (Sic)” commented another netizen on Facebook.
Another netizen hoped that the trend would encourage people to do away with another wasteful spending during serving of wazwan..
“If only we could do that and all the other wasteful spending and innovations that are happening in marriages would also end. (sic),” he said.
The move was also welcomed by the people associated with the apple business.
“Coke has been replaced by apple in Kashmiri wazwan which i saw today in a marriage ceremony.
We are requesting everyone use Apple in every function or celebration so that we are boosting our apple economy and saving our apple traders, As well as orchardists of our Kashmir valley…Please share our post so that some more people know what we have to do now…(sic),” FG Agro Kashmir commented on Facebook.
