Srinagar, Oct 31: Government Degree College, Anantnag organized a two-day national seminar on ‘Urdu Language and Literature in Sub-continent: Present and Future’ on October 24 and 25.
A large gathering of academicians, professors, scholars and students across various states participated in the seminar which started with the playing of College tarana followed by the incense burning in the traditional censer ‘Kangri’.
The Chief Guest of the event was Professor Altaf Anjum, literary critic and professor Distance Education, University of Kashmir, Srinagar.
The function was presided over by renowned academician Professor Bashir Ahmad Nehvi.
The function was also graced by Professor Mushtaq Ali, Principal GDC, Dooru and Professor Nazir Ahmad Charag, Principal GDC, Bijbehara. Professor Bashir Ahmad Rather, the Principal of the host college, in his welcome address stressed upon the importance of organizing such seminars to preserve our languishing languages.
Professor Sajad Ahmad Sultan, Head department of Urdu, GDC Anantnag in his speech delineated upon the importance of the theme of the seminar.
The inaugural function was followed by four technical sessions. As many as 30 research scholars presented their research papers and were followed by question answer sessions.
The valedictory function was graced by Director Colleges, Higher Education Department J&K, Professor Zahoor Ahmad Chat.
He congratulated the Principal and the staff of the college for shouldering the responsibilities of serving the languages in contemporary times.
The Principal of the host college, Professor Bashir Ahmad Rather, in his valedictory speech stressed upon the need to delve deep in varied dimensions of the Urdu language to preserve and enrich it.
The words of gratitude were presented by Dr Manzoor Ahmad Kumar and the proceedings of the inaugural session were conducted by Professor Nisar Nadeem.
