Al-Quds day: Clashes in Nowhatta, Anantnag

Srinagar, Jun 08: Clashes erupted between government forces and youth after Friday prayers at Nowhatta area of Srinagar.
After the culmination of congregational Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta area of the city, young boys took to the streets to hold a rally in solidarity with Palestinians.
Muslims across world observe last Friday of Ramadhan as Yaem-ul-Quds or Al Quds Day in solidarity with Palestinians.
They were chanting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.
However, a heavy contingent of police and paramilitary forces deployed there intercepted the youth, triggering clashes.
Forces fired several rounds of tear-gas canisters to disperse the protesting youth.
Intense clashes were also reported from Reshi Bazar area of Anantnag district on Friday afternoon.
The clashes erupted immediately after the Friday prayers were over at Jamia Masjid Reshi Bazaar.
Several youth pelted stones on the deployed forces personnel who responded by firing tear gas shells and stun grenades.
