Srinagar: Noted Srinagar lawyer, Bilal Ahmad Bhat, passed away on Monday, after battling with cancer for some time now.
Widely known as ‘Filla’, Bilal, who was a maverick and loved to follow his heart, had a long and successful career as a lawyer.
Not just among lawyers, Bilal was a well-known among the journalists and other civil society members as well.
“We shockingly inform that our dearest friend Bilal Ahmed Bhat (Filla) is no more. He breathed his last today after fighting cancer like a lion for a long time. He will always be remembered as a kind and loving person. Will always be remembers in our prayers,” his lawyer friends and associates paid tributes to him.
Bilal was in news last June when J&K police had summoned him over his criticism of a judgement by J&K high court in which it upheld the detention of Kashmir High Court Bar president and senior advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom.
