Srinagar, July 15: Seven people were killed and over three dozens injured in a landslide at Sihar Baba, a revered place in Reasi district, on Sunday when a loose rock fell down on the devotees who were bathing in a waterfall.
According to police officials, the incident occurred at 3.30 pm when dozens of people were bathing in the waterfall.
“Seven people were killed and over three dozens got serious injuries. All the injured have been shifted to Jammu after they were given first aid at district hospital,” said Tahir Bhat, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Reasi was quoted in a media report.
“The area has been sealed and no pilgrim or tourist is being allowed to visit the place,” he added.
Police say the loose boulder brought down small rocks and mud and trapped about three dozen people Sunday at the waterfall spot in the outskirts of Reasi town in the Jammu region.
Sihar Baba is a revered place with a waterfall on the bank of Chenab river. It also has a temple of Lord Shiva. Hundreds of pilgrims bound for Vaishno Devi, besides locals, visit the place.
Being Sunday the number of people at the place was more than the usual.
