6th JKOACON concludes at SKIMS MC Bemina

Srinagar, July 15, KDC: The 6th JKOACON, the 2-day annual conference held by the Jammu and Kashmir orthopaedic association concluded on Saturday at the SKIMS MC Bemina.

Over the two-day event the conference was attended by around 200 delegates.

Speaking at the inauguration, the director SKIMS Soura prof Parvez Koul, who took out time from a very packed schedule, lauded the department of orthopaedics for the organisation of such a major event. The principal SKIMS Prof Irfan Robbani called the department an island of excellence. He commended the retired faculty for pushing the Deptt forward. Dean academics Prof Laway, quite interestingly, felt that the orthopedic community bases their prescriptions on solid scientific basis.

The conference was attended by the top functionaries of the Indian orthopedic association including the president Prof Atul Srivastava, Dr Navin Thakkar and Dr Anup Agrawal. All of them reiterated the special bond they felt for the orthopedic community of Kashmir.

The JKOA functionaries also spoke on the occasion including Prof Rajesh Gupta, Prof Altaf Kawoosa and Prof Sanjeev Gupta.

Prof Saheel Maajid reiterated the importance of the offline conference in developing social, academic and scientific skills.

Three workshops were organized on the first day including hip arthroplasty, knee arthroplasty and femoral neck system. Delegates learnt from accomplished faculty including dr harish bhende, dr Abdul Ghani, Dr Bashir during these interactive sessions.

A live workshop on Robotic total knee replacement was conducted by the renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr S Rajashekharan from Ganga hospital Coimbatore. The session was much appreciated.

Symposia were held about trauma, recent advances, oncology, spine, hip and knee.

A free paper session was held and best paper and poster awards were announced. Dr Sabgat won the best paper award and Dr Abdul Majid won the best poster award with Dr Nasir shah finishing a close second.

Several eminent National and International faculty attended the event. These included Dr Ram Chaddha, Dr Sanjay Dhar, Dr SS Mohanty, Dr Sheikh Zahoor, Dr Vijay Sharma, Dr Vijay Kumar, Dr Akhilesh Yadav, Dr Manish Varshney, Dr Vishwas Sharma, Dr Nitin Saini, Dr Jitender Singla and Dr Tarsem Lal.

The region was represented by Dr MS Tara, Dr Nissar Dar, Dr Sharief Wani, Dr MA Basit, Dr Asif Sultan, Dr Iftikhar Wani, Dr Zameer Ali, Dr Younis Kamaal, Dr Amir Hakak, Dr Kafeel Khan.

Dr Ozair Bin Majid, Dr Mubashir Maqbool and Dr Suhail had flown in from the Middle East to showcase their work.

Prof Mohammed Ramzan Mir was honored with a lifetime achievement award and Dr MS Tara was given a special award.

Dr Tahir Dar and Dr Reyaz Ahmad Dar were the organizing secretaries of the conference. Dr Shabir Dhar chaired the scientific committee. Speaking at the end Dr Shabir thanked the IOA and the JKOA for attending the conference in numbers.

The department of orthopedics went on a cleanup drive at the end of the conference to clean the campus as part of the environmental responsibility that such large events entail.
