3 restaurants sealed during market checking

KULGAM: Following the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, a team headed by Tehsildar Kulgam Bilal Ahmad (JKAS), along with Food Safety Officer Inderjeet Singh, SHO Kulgam Lateef Ahmad, Municipal Council Kulgam, Legal Metrology officials, and Food Department officials, as well as police officials, conducted market checking in the main market of Kulgam and its adjacent areas.

During the market checking, the restaurants and shops were inspected, and unhygienic, rotten vegetables, fruits, and expired items were destroyed on the spot. Additionally, three restaurants were sealed, and fines were collected by officials from the erring restaurants and violators on the spot.

“We had already received complaints that the butcher was not slaughtering the sheep at the old slaughterhouse in the district. Therefore, people had apprehensions that the butcher might have been selling the meat of dead sheep. We had also apprised him earlier through notices that he should slaughter sheep at the abattoir, where the doctors check whether animals are alive or not,” Tehsildar Kulgam Bilal Ahmad said.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Kulgam instructed various departments to conduct market checking frequently during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha for public benefit. He mentioned that a meeting had already been chaired in this regard to discuss market checking.
