3 militants killed in ongoing Kulgam encounter

Srinagar, Apr 4: Three militants were killed in an ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in Khul Batpora area of Damhall belt in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district Saturday morning.

Official said that on specific inputs about the presence of militants, joint team of forces including 34 RR launched search operation in the area.

On intensifying search operation towards the suspected spot, hiding militants fired which was retaliated triggering an encounter, they said

During exchange of fire three unidentified militants were killed and firing has stopped however operation is still on, the officials said.

Reports said all the three were locals however their identity was yet to be ascertained.

Pertinently two days before two civilians were killed by unknown gunmen in the area while police as per preliminary investigation said that they were killed by the same militants.

Notably this is first encounter in Kulgam police district after a gap of around 10 months

Earlier police in a tweet said that trapped militants are involved in recent civilian killings in Kulgam district.
