19 CRPF men injured as vehicle turns turtle in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 27: At least 19 paramilitary CRPF men were injured after a vehicle in which they were travelling in skidded off the road near Bemina in outskirts of Srinagar city on Sunday morning.

Official sources said that the vehicle of 28 bn CRPF was on way to convoy ground when it turned turtle resulting in injuries to 19 troopers.

IG CRPF Ravideep Sahai said that the mishap took place after some “miscreants pelted stones” on the vehicle.

“19 troopers suffered injuries in the incident. All the injured have been hospitalised. Nine among the injured were shifted to army’s 92 Base hospital Badamibagh for treatment where the condition of a trooper is stated to be critical,” IG added.

Police, meanwhile, on Sunday said that there was no stone pelting in Bemina area which according to CRPF led to injuries to 19 troopers.

Nearly an hour after CRPF blamed stone pelting for the accident, SSP Srinagar Imtiaz Ismail Parray said that based on CCTV camera footage it is clear that there was no stone pelting in the area and the mishap occurred as the CRPF driver lost control over the vehicle.

“The CCTV footage was procured and it is clearly seen that the driver lost control which resulted in the mishap,” SSP said, adding the 19 troopers were injured in the incident.

He said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered.
